Joel Casamayor lightweight crown

Written on November 11, 2007 – 2:00 am | by JC |

Joel Casamayor the kid that was born in Cuba barely held on to keep his interim light weight title. The boxing council met on it and allowed Joel Casamayor to hold it. This was Saturday after a very close split decision between the mean hardcore lightweight of Mexico, Jose Armando Santa Cruz. If you saw this one you know how close it was unless your partial.

There was a large roaring crowd at Madison Square Garden that were pretty angry after the judges’ verdict was announced, and continued to boo for while. They came to this decision when two of the judges favored Joel Casamayor 114-113 and the other judge was in favor of Jose Armando Santa Cruz the.

Some might think that Santa Cruz dominated this fight over Joel Casamayor because he knocked him down to the floor hard only 50 seconds into the fight. So logically many wanted Jose Armando Santa Cruz to win this title. However from that point on he didn’t show the people that he was the dominate and faded out a bit into the fight.

Joel Casamayor, hadn’t fought in a long time until this fight. The last time was when he put the beating on Diego Corrales and took th crown from him.Imagine, this was about 13 months ago. You might be thinking that Joel Casamayor was fresh right. Well he may have been, but he hadn’t seen any action for over a year so its pretty impressive that Joel Casmayor would take this fight over Santa cruz the way he did.

People always seem to get upset like in this fight between Joel Casamayor and Jose Armando Santa Cruz, because it is such a close match. Everyone has their opinion about who the real winner was. Either way its just another match that people can say what they want and believe as they wish cause everyone knows in reality their was no real winner. It was a tie with Joel Casamayor and Santa Cruz.
