aaron rowand baseball carlos silva Craig Monroe detroit tigers Jacque Jones mays mlbCraig Monroe was announced that he would be going to the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday for a player to be named. Which means we don’t know yet who that is. This looks to be just more movement around the Cubs roster as they try to get their players in order. Seems like the Cubs just picked up Craig Monroe not too long ago. Thats right they did have Craig Monroe for just a short while.
When the Cubs first picked up Craig Monroe on Aug. 23 they had traded Clay Rapada to get another right handed batter to add to the right handed batter list so to speak. Now at the time he was hitting a .204 with a home run and four RBIs in 23 games in Chicago.
So between His transition to the Cubs Craig Monroe was at a batting average of about .219 with 12 homers and 59 RBIs in 122 games in his 2007 MLB career which is pretty decent for a guy of this caliber as Craig Monroe is. Would you want to get rid of Craig Monroe or would you keep a hold of him and let him get his roots planted with the team? Thats not what the Cubs want to do with Craig Monroe.
The plan then of the Cubs is to let Craig Monroe be a free agent which will allow him to be dealt to the Minnesota Twins in exchange for a low level prospect. You may be wondering why the Cubs want to do this when they have a pretty reliable batter that can do an average job. Well Craig Monroe may want to leave the Cubs. This gives the Cubs an opportunity to take a little risk instead of holding on to a reliable player like Craig Monroe.
Will this be a good payoff for the Chicago Cubs to dump off Craig Monroe and pick up someone they don’t know yet. You be the judge of that. But then again its no our money now is it.
