Fred Taylor Career 10,000 rushing yards record

Written on November 11, 2007 – 3:37 pm | by JC |

Big man Fred Taylor breaks his rushing yards number career today with 10,000 rushing yards. This is amazing. Only 21 other players have ever done this in the career of football. The following is a list of the guys that have ever done this so Check it out you may be surprised with some of the names of players new and old who have managed to make this happen.

Jerome Bettis will probably be the most recognized of these names, who was able to get in his rookie year, rush for 1,429 yards in 1993. Bettis rushed for 1,072 yards and 4 scores in 2001, but was followed by a plague of injuries the following year. As opposed to Fred Taylor getting his 10,000 rushing yards record, Bettis finished his huge 13 NFL seasons as the 5th in the NFL all-time leading rusher with 13,662 yards and 91 touchdowns. Those are some super numbers for the Bus.

Another on the 10,000 rushing yards list with Fred Taylor now is also Barry Sanders. He rushed for 1,322 yards in the final seven games of the season in HighSchool which is just crazy. This had earned him all-state honors. In his NFL career 1994 was one of his best seasons with an impressive 1,883 yards, but what is really jaw dropping is the 5.7 yards he had per carry.

Along with Fred Taylor now there have been many memorable others who have cleared the 10,000 rushing yards to set a record. Here are a few of the others. Marcus Allen, Ottis Anderson, Jim Brown, Tiki Barber, Eric Dickerson, Corey Dillon, Tony Dorsett, Marshall Faulk, Eddie George, Franco Harris, Edgerrin James, Curtis Martin, Walter Payton, John Riggins, O.J. Simpson, Emmitt Smith, Thurman Thomas, and last but not least Ricky Watters.

This should total now 21 players that have ever accomplished this. The records for Most rushing yards or having 10,000 rushing yards in a career by a player like Fred Taylor is not the most important thing. But it sure does give people something to be excited about in the game of football.
